Why I Donate to Ecologi

Every booking plants a tree. Here’s why…

Let’s be real for a second — weddings have a carbon footprint.

The travel, the venue, the flowers flown in from god knows where, the catering. I can’t control any of that. But I can control what I do with my slice of it, and that’s why every single time someone books me to photograph their wedding, I make a donation to Ecologi in their name.

Not as a gimmick. Not because it looks good in a brochure. Because it matters, and because doing nothing isn’t an option I’m comfortable with.

So what actually happens when you book me?

A tree gets planted in your name – that bit’s the easy, feel-good part. But it goes further than that. Through Ecologi I also contribute to nature-based and community-based carbon avoidance projects: things like peatland restoration, wetland conservation, and initiatives that support communities while actively protecting ecosystems. Real, tangible impact, not just a symbolic gesture.

You can see exactly where the money goes. My impact page is live, public, and fully transparent – so far my couples and I have collectively funded 382 trees, avoided 45 tonnes of CO₂e (that’s the equivalent of 35 long haul flights, or over 114,000 miles driven), and restored 22m² of habitat. Every booking adds to that number. Every couple becomes part of it.

Why does this feel important to me specifically?

Because I photograph weddings. Moments that people will look back on for the rest of their lives. And I think the photographers, creatives, and small businesses who get to be part of those moments have a responsibility to give a shit about the world those moments happen in.

I’m not saving the planet single-handedly. But I’m also not just shrugging and moving on. The wedding industry is massive, and if more of us started building this stuff into how we operate rather than treating it as a nice-to-have, that adds up.

It costs me money. That’s fine. It’s worth it.

If you’re booking a wedding photographer…

You’re already making a load of decisions. Venue, dress, flowers, food, music, who gets sat next to who at the reception so nobody starts a fight before the speeches. I know the list is endless.

But knowing that your photography booking quietly plants a tree and funds conservation projects in your name? That one’s easy. ⚡️🖤
